The following position is available in the newly established Collaborative Research Center 1718 “Common Ground: Cognition – Grammar – Communication” (funded by the German Research Foundation, DFG) beginning October 1st, 2025, or as soon as possible afterwards.

PhD Researcher in Cognitive Development (m/f/d, E13 TV-L, 75%)

The position will be filled until June 30th, 2029.

The position is associated with project A6 “Developing Common Ground Across Age and Language Proficiency” of CRC 1718. The project aims to identify the prerequisites for common ground - in particular perspective taking and linguistic abilities - in ontogenetic development by testing child first language learners, adult second language learners and L1 adults. The project includes memory and eye movement studies focusing on the language and perspective taking skills of children aged two to six years and control studies with adults. The studies will be conducted in close collaboration with a second doctoral student of project A6 with a background in linguistics, whose doctoral project will focus on second language learners.

Applicants should have obtained a master’s degree in psychology, cognitive science or linguistics by 1 October 2025, have experience in empirical-experimental research in the field of psychology or psycholinguistics and have knowledge of German (near native speaker) and English.

The project offers a cohesive interdisciplinary research environment at the University of Tübingen and a dedicated interdisciplinary project team of psychologists and linguistics. The Working Group for Developmental Psychology has very well-established routines for carrying out and analyzing stationary and mobile measurements of reaction times and eye movements in children.
